Promotion Management Walkthrough

In this walkthrough, you will create a Promotion in Pricing and Promotions Manager, use it on the sample Reference Storefront site, and verify the promotion has been applied by using Customer and Order Manager.

Sample data used:

  • The sample Promotion being created in this walkthrough is a 10% off discount when a minimum of two products are purchased. It also requires a public coupon (10OffRefrigerator).
  • The sample product being used in this walkthrough is the "Habitat Viva 4-Door 22.0 Cubic Foot Refrigerator with Ice Maker", with the productID value of "6042567".

Prerequisites:

  • The Reference Storefront site must be running with the sample Habitat_Master catalog.
  • Your current Sitecore log on user must have the role of "Promotioner Manager" in order to perform the following operations.

To create a new Promotion Book:

  1. From the Sitecore Launch Pad, launch the Pricing and Promotions Manager.

  2. Click Add under the Promotion Books section to create a new Promotion book, and enter the required information.

  3. Highlight the "Habitat_Master" catalog, and click Associate Catalog under the Catalogs section. You can associate multiple catalogs to a Promotion Book.

In the next section, you will create a test promotion of a 10% off offer for the product "Habitat Viva 4-Door 22.0 Cubic Foot Refrigerator with Ice Maker" (productID 604257). This promotion will require a coupon code and the minimum purchase of two products to be applied.

To create the Promotion:

  1. Click Add under the Promotions section to create a new Promotion. Enter the required information.

    Note:
    • The value entered for "Cart Text" will be displayed in the shopping cart.
    • If the Is Exclusive check box is selected, only this promotion will be applied on the shopping cart when multiple promotions are qualified. If the Is Exclusive check box is not selected, all of the qualified promotions will be applied to the shopping cart.

The new Promotion is displayed with empty values for most of the sections.

  2. Click Add under the Items section, and add the information for the product that you want to target with this promotion. You can search by product name, or by productID. If the product has variants, you can select individual variants, or select the Select All check box to target all of the product variants.

  3. Click Add under the Qualifications section. For Condition, select "Cart Item Quantity is in [min] [max] Range?", for Minimum Quantity, select "2", for Maximum Quantity, select "10", and for Target item Id, select "6042567". Click OK to save your selections.

  4. Click Add under the Benefits section. For Action, select "Get Cart Item Subtotal [specific] Percent Off", for Percent Off, select "10", and for Target Item Id, select "6042567". Click OK to save your selections.

  5. Click Add under the Public Coupons section, and add the code "10OffRefrigerator".
  6. Click Request Approval, then Approve from the Action Group drop-down menu to follow the workflow to bring this promotion into affect.

The Promotion should look like the following:

To verify the Promotion in Merchandising Manager:

  1. From the Sitecore Launch Pad, launch Merchandising Manager.

  2. In the Promotions tab, under the target product (MERCHANDISING MANAGER>Habitat_Master>Departments>Appliances>Refrigerators>Habitat Viva 4-Door 22.0 Cubic Foot Refrigerator with Ice Maker), the Promotion you created previously should be displayed.

To check the promotion on the sample Reference Storefront site:

  1. Launch a browser, navigate to the product detail page for the test product, and add the product and discount code (coupon) to the shopping cart. The shopping cart should show that the 10% discount that you defined in the promotion has been applied.

  2. When you change the product quantity to be outside of the 2-10 range, or if you remove the coupon, the discount is not applied.

Once the shopping cart has gone through the checkout process, you can find the discount information in the Customer and Order Manager, under the corresponding order. The coupon used will be shown under the Summary section.

The discount will be shown under the line item Adjustments.
